The ancestral tradition of weaving fish nets was lost after our coastal hometown of Rosario, Cavite, became industrialized, and my family was displaced. Our emigration to the U.S., driven by economic instability in the Philippines during the 1970s, created a rift between the cultural traditions of our homeland and our new lives abroad. In creating Lambat, I sought to trace my grandfather’s weaving and fishing craft to embody this lost knowledge and potentially reconnect with a tradition that once shaped our family.
